Lead generation for financial advisors

    Updated: 5 October 2026

Newlead runs B2B lead generation for financial advisors by cold email. We reach business owners, retirement plan sponsors and centers of influence such as CPAs, with copy your compliance team approves before launch. Our team builds the list, sends the emails, handles every reply and delivers each interested lead to your Slack with name, company, email and phone number.

For advisors who serve businesses, not consumer households. Booking meetings into your calendar is available as an add-on.

Our team handles every reply and posts each interested lead to your Slack.

    What results look like

We email financial services firms for our own business, so we know how crowded these inboxes are. Our largest campaign, Newlead pitching its own service, sent 117,475 emails to 56,503 people at financial services firms in the US and Canada. These are not client results or a forecast for yours. Full data: cold email benchmarks 2026.

    • 60% of replies came from the first email in that campaign, and 40% from follow-ups.
    • 2.6x difference in reply rate between two first-email variants (0.67% vs 0.25%), so plan for your compliance team to approve more than one version.
    • 0.62% bounce rate across all 371,590 emails in our own outbound, with every address verified before it enters a sequence.

Reply rate here means unique human replies divided by unique people contacted, with auto-replies excluded. Your results depend on your market, list size and offer.

How do financial advisors get clients?

Which clients can advisors reach with cold email?

Business clients. We do not run consumer campaigns to households. Cold email fits when the person you email runs a business or decides for one.

Pitching CPAs as partners? We email US and UK accounting firms for our own business, so we know their inboxes. See lead generation for accounting and CPA firms. Wealth managers should read lead generation for wealth and capital management firms.

What rules apply when financial advisors send cold email?

Email law and securities marketing rules apply at the same time. Last checked 3 October 2026.

    • A cold email sequence offering your services is an advertisement. The SEC Marketing Rule covers any communication an adviser makes to more than one person that offers its advisory services (17 CFR 275.206(4)-1). The SEC's adopting release says bulk emails nominally addressed to one person, and templates customized with a name or basic details, are not one-on-one communications.
    • The general prohibitions apply. No untrue or unsubstantiated claims, no benefits without a fair and balanced view of the risks, no cherry-picked advice or performance. Testimonials and performance carry extra conditions (same rule).
    • Keep a copy of every advertisement for at least five years from the end of the fiscal year of the last entry, the first two years in an appropriate office (17 CFR 275.204-2).
    • FINRA Rule 2210 for registered representatives. Emails to more than 25 retail investors within 30 calendar days are retail communications. A qualified registered principal must generally approve them before use, and they must be fair and balanced, with no false, exaggerated, promissory or misleading claims (FINRA 2210).
    • CAN-SPAM applies too, with no exception for business email. Use honest headers and subject lines, identify the message as an ad, include a postal address and honor opt-outs within 10 business days (FTC).
    • UK advisors. Only an authorized person, or content approved by one, may communicate an invitation or inducement to engage in investment activity in the course of business (FSMA section 21), and promotions must be fair, clear and not misleading (COBS 4.2.1R). PECR allows B2B email to companies and LLPs without consent, but not to sole traders and some partnerships. UK GDPR still applies, and the ICO says its guidance is under review (ICO).

State-registered advisers should ask their compliance officer which state rules apply. For email law in general, see is cold email legal.

This is not legal advice. Your compliance officer or counsel signs off copy before launch.

How does compliance review work with Newlead?

We agree five things with your compliance team before the first send.

    • Plain text. No images, tracking, performance figures, testimonials, ratings or promises, so each email is simpler to review and archive.
    • Approval first. Your compliance team approves each variant, including any FINRA principal approval. Nothing goes out before sign-off.
    • Records. Your firm keeps the final text of every variant it approved.
    • Archiving. Ask your CCO whether reply inboxes and the Slack channel where leads arrive must be archived, and agree how before launch.
    • Opt-outs. An opt-out or "not interested" reply stops the sequence and suppresses the contact from later campaigns. The person goes on a blocklist and is never contacted again.

What does a delivered lead look like?

Each interested lead is posted to your Slack, like this.

    Example, placeholder values

    Name: [First Last]

    Title: [Owner and CEO]

    Company: [Company name], [City, State]

    Email: [name@company.com]

    Phone: [+1 000 000 0000]

    Segment: [Business owners, succession planning]

Reply: [Their reply, for example open to a call next week about succession planning]

Your advisor calls back. With the booking add-on, we put the meeting in your calendar instead.

What does the sending setup look like?

A typical setup uses 4-6 sending domains and 100-250 inboxes, separate from your main domain, each sending about 4 plain-text emails a day with no tracking. Each contact gets up to 4 emails over about three weeks, from a list of up to 10,000 verified contacts. Your scope depends on your segments and advisor capacity.

Why Newlead instead of an in-house rep or a lead vendor?

An in-house rep must be hired, trained and supervised, and compliance still reviews their emails. Consumer lead vendors sell household leads. We run only B2B cold email, from list to replies, so your advisors only talk to people who said they are interested.

Financial advice and wealth management is one of the niches we work in. Newlead is a Swedish company in Eskilstuna, founded in January 2025 by co-founders Max Erikstedt (CEO) and Vishal Vyas. More about Newlead.

    What this costs

Newlead does not publish prices. Scope depends on how many segments you target, since owners, plan sponsors and CPA partners each need their own list and copy, plus your markets, sending volume and whether you add meeting booking.

Compliance review time affects the launch date, so we plan for it on the discovery call. Prefer to run outbound yourself? Our one-time implementation means we build the outbound system and you own it.

    Who this is for

    • Advisors whose clients are business owners or companies.
    • 401(k) and retirement plan advisors who want conversations with plan sponsors.

    Who this is not for

    Common questions

Can financial advisors send cold emails?

Yes, to businesses in the US and the UK, if the emails meet email law and securities marketing rules. In the US that means CAN-SPAM and the SEC Marketing Rule, plus FINRA Rule 2210 for registered representatives. In the UK, an authorized firm must make or approve the promotion, and sole traders need consent under PECR. This is not legal advice.

Is a cold email an advertisement under the SEC Marketing Rule?

Yes, in most cases, for SEC-registered advisers. The rule covers communications to more than one person that offer advisory services. The SEC's adopting release says bulk emails nominally addressed to one person, or templates customized with a name or basic details, are not one-on-one communications. So treat every variant as an advertisement and keep a copy.

Must our CCO approve the emails?

Yes. We do not send any variant your compliance team has not approved, and later edits go back for approval. For registered representatives, FINRA Rule 2210 also generally requires a qualified registered principal to approve emails to more than 25 retail investors within 30 days before use.

Can we mention performance or client reviews?

No, not in our campaigns. The SEC Marketing Rule allows performance and testimonials only with specific disclosures and conditions that do not fit a short cold email, and FINRA Rule 2210 bans promissory or exaggerated claims. Our emails say who you help and what a first call covers.

Who do you target for financial advisors?

Businesses and the people who run them. That means business owners facing succession or a sale, owners and HR or finance leaders who sponsor retirement plans, and CPAs and estate attorneys as referral partners. Each segment gets its own list and copy. We do not mass-email consumer households.

    How are records kept?

Your firm keeps them, because the duty sits with the adviser. SEC-registered advisers keep a copy of each advertisement for at least five years from the end of the fiscal year of the last entry. You approve every variant, so each one is already on file.

Do you work with UK advisors?

Yes. For UK campaigns we focus on companies and LLPs, which PECR lets you email without prior consent, unlike sole traders and some partnerships. Under section 21 of FSMA, an authorized firm must make or approve the promotion, and COBS 4 requires it to be fair, clear and not misleading.
