Lead generation for accounting and CPA firms
Updated: 5 October 2026
Newlead runs done-for-you cold email lead generation for accounting and CPA firms in the US and UK. Our team builds a verified list of business owners, CFOs and controllers, writes and sends the emails, and handles every reply. Each interested prospect is delivered to your Slack with name, company, email and phone number.
Partners only see prospects who replied with interest. We plan campaigns around tax season, and meeting booking is an optional add-on.

What results look like
We know accounting firms from the inbox side. To sell Newlead's own service, we have contacted 33,348 accounting firms in Sweden, the UK and the US. This is how they replied:
- Sweden: 880 contacted, 7.73% reply rate, one opportunity per 46 people contacted.
- United Kingdom: 11,726 contacted, 2.34% reply rate, one opportunity per 103.
- United States: 20,742 contacted, 1.55% reply rate, one opportunity per 284.
- US enterprise accounting firms, counted separately: 5,035 contacted, 0.44% reply rate, one opportunity per 2,518.
Reply rate is unique human replies per person contacted, auto-replies excluded. An opportunity is a reply positive enough to become a live sales conversation. Method: cold email benchmarks 2026.
These numbers measure how accounting firms answered us, not what your campaign will get, because your emails go to business owners and finance leaders. They show that we know how crowded a partner's inbox is. Your own results depend on your market, the size of your list and how specific your offer is.
Results for accounting and bookkeeping clients. From January to September 2026, campaigns we ran for five accounting, bookkeeping and outsourced finance firms in Sweden got replies from 10.70% of the 102,187 people contacted. For five such firms in the US, the figure was 0.93% of 115,354. One Swedish client, Luca, got 249 leads from about 48,900 cold emails between June 2025 and June 2026, and those leads brought about $685,000 in revenue. That is one client's result, not a forecast. How do accounting and CPA firms get clients?
Referrals usually come first, then SEO, ads, LinkedIn and events. Cold email is the channel where you choose exactly which businesses hear from you.
| Channel | Speed to first lead | What drives cost | Control over volume | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Referrals and centers of influence | Unpredictable | Partner time | Low | Clients, bankers and attorneys already send you work |
| SEO and local search | Slow, often months | Content and site work | Grows over time | Clients search for your niche or town |
| Paid search ads | Fast once live | Cost per click | High while you pay | Buyers already search for your service |
| Medium | Partner time | Medium | Partners like to post and network | |
| Events and webinars | Slow to medium | Venue and prep time | Low | You have a niche topic to teach |
| Cold email | Weeks, after setup | List size, sending setup, copy | High | You know which businesses you want |

Which clients should an accounting firm target with cold email?
Usually owners and CEOs at smaller companies, and CFOs and controllers at mid-market ones. Lead with one specific service. "Switch accountants" is a hard sell to a stranger. A sales tax review for a company that just started selling in new states is easier to say yes to.
| Service line | Who to email | Signals that help |
|---|---|---|
| Tax planning for owner-led businesses | Owners and CEOs | New entity, fast headcount growth |
| Client advisory and outsourced accounting | Owners and CEOs | Growing team, no finance leader yet |
| Sales tax and multistate tax | CFOs and controllers | Expansion into new states |
| R&D tax credits | CFOs at product and software companies | Funding, a growing engineering team |
| Cost segregation | Commercial property owners | A recent purchase or build |
| Audit and assurance | CFOs at growing companies | A funding round |
If your firm serves one industry, such as construction or real estate, the list is built around it. Selling monthly bookkeeping? See lead generation for bookkeeping firms. Part-time CFO work? See lead generation for fractional CFOs.
When should an accounting firm run outbound?
Between busy seasons, so new clients sign and onboard before the next one starts. Key dates for calendar-year filers, last checked 3 October 2026:
| Deadline | Due | What it means for outbound |
|---|---|---|
| US partnership and S corporation returns | 15th day of the 3rd month after year end (mid-March) | Busy season in full swing |
| US individual and C corporation returns | 15th day of the 4th month (mid-April) | Peak. Keep January to April for current clients |
| Extended partnership and S corporation returns | Mid-September | A short crunch |
| Extended individual and C corporation returns | Mid-October | The last crunch of the year |
| UK Self Assessment | 31 October on paper, 31 January online and for payment | UK practices peak in January |
Our advice: build pipeline from May to December so new clients sign before January, and keep January clear in the UK. In the US, a deadline on a weekend or legal holiday moves to the next business day, and fiscal-year filers count from their own year end. Sources: IRS Publication 509 and GOV.UK.

Example, placeholder values
- Name: [First and last name]
- Company: [Company name]
- Email: [Work email]
- Phone: [Phone number]

How is the sending set up?
Your firm's domain carries client email and portal invites, so no cold email is sent from it. We use dedicated sending domains and inboxes, separate from your main domain. A typical setup is 4-6 sending domains and 100-250 inboxes, about 4 plain-text emails per inbox a day without tracking, a 4-email sequence over about three weeks and lists of up to 10,000 contacts. More on our cold email agency service.
What rules apply when CPA firms send cold email?
The same email laws as any business, plus professional rules. The main ones, last checked 3 October 2026:
- Circular 230, section 10.30. It covers practitioners before the IRS, including CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents, when they solicit IRS-related work. No false, fraudulent, coercive, misleading or deceptive claims. Any lawful solicitation must clearly identify itself as a solicitation and, if applicable, name the source of the information used to choose the recipient (31 CFR 10.30).
- Stop when they say no. A practitioner may not keep contacting a prospect who has said they do not want to be solicited (same section).
- Keep records for 36 months. For direct mail and e-commerce communications, keep a copy of the message and the list of recipients for at least 36 months after last use (same section). For cold email, the safe reading is to keep every email in the sequence and the recipient list. We can export the recipient list and the sent emails for your file.
- CAN-SPAM. No B2B exception. Each email needs honest headers and subject lines, an ad disclosure, a valid physical postal address and an opt-out honored within 10 business days. Your firm and the agency that sends for you can both be held responsible (FTC).
- Business clients. In Edenfield v. Fane (1993), the Supreme Court struck down Florida's ban on CPAs' in-person, uninvited solicitation as applied to business clients, describing them as sophisticated and experienced business executives (opinion).
- UK. Under PECR, limited companies and LLPs can be emailed without consent if you identify yourself and give a valid opt-out address. Sole traders and some partnerships need consent or a soft opt-in. UK GDPR still applies, and the ICO says its guidance is under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act (ICO).
State boards of accountancy can have their own advertising and solicitation rules, so check with yours before launch. Any opt-out or "not interested" reply stops the sequence, and the person goes on a blocklist and is never contacted again.
This is not legal advice. Your firm or its counsel signs off the copy before launch. Full guide: is cold email legal.
Why Newlead instead of a hire or another agency?
- Versus a business developer. No hiring, tools or sending setup to manage. See in-house vs agency lead generation.
- Versus agencies that promise fixed numbers. Market, list and offer drive results, so we run the numbers for your market on the discovery call before anything starts.
- Versus LinkedIn and ads. We only run cold email. Leads come with a phone number so your team can call.
- Experience. Accounting, CPA and bookkeeping firms in the US and Sweden are among our niches. We don't name clients without their approval.
Newlead is a B2B lead generation agency in Eskilstuna, Sweden, founded in January 2025 by co-founders Max Erikstedt (CEO) and Vishal Vyas. See all industries or our hub for B2B lead generation for financial services firms.
What this costs
Newlead does not publish prices. Scope depends on your market (US, UK or both), how many businesses fit your target client, the sending setup that volume needs and whether you add meeting booking.
We scope it with you on the discovery call. To run outbound in-house instead, choose our one-time implementation: we build the outbound system and you own it.

Who this is for
- Accounting and CPA firms in the US or UK that want more business clients.
- Firms with a clear service to sell, from tax planning and sales tax to R&D credits or cost segregation.
- Partners who can take calls between busy seasons and follow up fast when a lead lands in Slack.
- Firms that want to choose their next clients instead of waiting for referrals.
Who this is not for
- Firms that want only individual tax clients. We email businesses, not households.
- Firms that want campaigns during busy season but have no partner time for calls.
- Firms that want LinkedIn outreach, cold calling or ads run for them.
Common questions
How do CPA firms get clients besides referrals?
Through SEO, paid search, LinkedIn, events and cold email. Referrals bring warm clients, but you can't choose when they arrive or who they are. Cold email lets you pick businesses by industry, size, region and service, and set the volume. Use it next to referrals to grow one service line at a time.
When should an accounting firm run outbound?
Between busy seasons, so new clients onboard before the next one. For calendar-year filers, US partnership and S corporation returns are due in mid-March, individual and C corporation returns in mid-April, and extended returns in mid-September and mid-October. UK online Self Assessment returns are due on 31 January. We suggest building pipeline from May to December.
Can CPAs send cold emails?
Yes, to businesses, if the emails follow the rules. CAN-SPAM requires honest headers and subject lines, an ad disclosure, a postal address and a working opt-out. For IRS-related work, Circular 230 also bans misleading claims, requires the email to identify itself as a solicitation and requires records kept for 36 months. Check your state board too. This is not legal advice.
Do you work with small and solo firms?
Yes, if the firm sells to businesses and has room for new clients. Capacity matters more than headcount, so we scope volume on the discovery call to match what you can onboard before busy season. Leads arrive in Slack with name, company, email and phone number, so no sales staff is needed.
How do leads reach us?
In Slack. Each interested prospect is posted with name, company, email and phone number, so a partner can call while the interest is fresh. Our team handles every other reply. If you prefer meetings in your calendar, booking is available as an add-on.
Do you work with UK accountants?
Yes. The UK is one of our two priority markets, with the US. Under PECR, sole traders and some partnerships need consent, so UK campaigns should target limited companies and LLPs. Self Assessment work peaks before 31 January, so plan campaigns for the rest of the year. Our co-founder Vishal Vyas takes international sales calls from London.
